MIAMI GARDENS, FL (August 12, 2013) – On the heels of the Guinness International Champions Cup, public officials and tourism leaders across South Florida gave rave reviews to the debut of Relevent Sports’ world-class soccer tournament, which brought the world’s top soccer teams and their best players to Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens.
William D. Talbert, President & CEO of the Greater Miami Convention & Visitor’s Bureau noted the high interest generated by the participation of top clubs and their star players, which resulted in “world-wide media coverage not only of the championship, but also the destination.
This Friday, August 16th, the summer’s most anticipated concert makes its final tour stop at Sun Life Stadium in Miami.
The Legends of the Summer Tour featuring Justin Timberlake and Jay Z has crossed the nation for the past month, filling venues from New York’s Yankee Stadium to the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. The tour kicked off in London and also had stops in Vancouver and Toronto, the only three dates held outside of the United States.
Sun Life Stadium is the tour’s only stop in the southeast, with the next closest venue having been Herseypark Stadium in Pennsylvania.
A crowd of 67,237 were on hand to witness Real Madrid win the inaugural Guinness International Champions Cup trophy, defeating Chelsea by a score of 3-1. Cristiano Ronaldo led the way for Madrid by scoring two goals and earning Man of the Tournament honors in match where he faced his former manager Jose Mourinho.
Madrid started the scoring early, when Marcelo found the back of the net during the 14th minute to gain an early lead. Not to be outdone, Chelsea quickly responded when Ramires evened the score at one at the 17 minute mark.
The first ever champion of the inaugural Guinness International Champions Cup will be crowned on the field tonight at Sun Life Stadium. Teams have traveled from across Europe and the United States, playing matches in Valencia, Phoenix, San Francisco, Indianapolis, Los Angles and New York before arriving in South Florida for the final rounds.
Tonight will once again feature a double header, the two matches being the LA Galaxy vs. AC Milan and Real Madrid vs. Chelsea.
The first match of the evening is the third place game which will see the LA Galaxy take on AC Milan is scheduled to kickoff at 6:30 pm.
More than 38,500 fans were on hand at Sun Life Stadium to witness two great soccer matches to open the championship rounds of the inaugural Guinness International Champions Cup.
Prior to the start of the matches, fans gathered at the International Champions Cup Fan Fest where fans had the opportunity to participate in interactive soccer games, listen to live music, sample cuisine from nations represented in this year’s tournament, and watch the player parade. Fans cheered on their favorite teams as they marched through the crowd and into the stadium for the first time.
The final rounds of the inaugural International Champions Cup have finally arrived, and all eight teams from across the United States and Europe have made their way to South Florida to compete in the final two days of the tournament at Sun Life Stadium.
Tonight, August 6th, two matches will be played, featuring Juventus vs. Inter and Everton vs. Valencia.
The first match of the night is the seventh place game and will see Juventus take on one of their Italian rivals Inter, and is scheduled to kickoff at 6:30 pm.
