Sun Life Stadium Kicks off Miami Sports Month with American Invitational Presented by G&C Farm

MIAMI (March 25, 2014) – For the first time in its accomplished 41-year history, the American Invitational, presented by G&C Farm, comes to Miami to kick off Miami Sports Month on April 5, 2014 at Sun Life Stadium. This fan-friendly and family-oriented event will feature a one-of-a-kind Miami Dolphins Show Jumping Fence to be used in the competition. Gates open at 5:00 p.m., where fans can stroll the Joe Robbie Alumni Plaza for ‘Family Fun’ & Entertainment. At 6:30 p.m., those in attendance will have an opportunity to get up close and personal with the horses and riders for autographs and photo opportunities, featuring international and Olympic riders such as Miami’s own Margie Goldstein Engle before the competition starts at 7:00 p.m.

Sun Sentinel: “Stephen Ross’ proposal for Sun Life a true win-win”

Sun Sentinel By Sun Sentinel Editorial Board Now this is the way a sports team owner should act. Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross, who last year lost his bid to renovate Sun Life Stadium with taxpayer money, now says he will pay for the upgrades out of his own pocket. Given the punch list at the football stadium, he could be on the hook for $350 million to $400 million. In exchange, Ross is requesting a tax break similar to what most other sports franchises get.

Miami Herald: “Gimenez: Dolphins owner ‘trying to do the right thing’”

I think he is trying to do the right thing, but nothing that you ever get done here is going to be easy,’’ Gimenez told WQAM 560 sports-talk host Joe Rose.

Orange Bowl Committee Endorses Sun Life Stadium Modernization Plan

Today the Orange Bowl Committee formally endorsed efforts to modernize Sun Life Stadium with private funds, releasing the following statement: “The Orange Bowl Committee applauds Mr. Ross and the Miami Dolphins organization for continuing to explore ways to modernize the stadium and improve the fan experience including at the historic Orange Bowl Classic.  Additionally under the new postseason College Football Playoff structure, College Football Championship Game sites are now being awarded via a highly competitive bid process.  South Florida and Orange Bowl Committee efforts to attract future College Football Championship Games will only be enhanced by a modernized stadium.

The University of Miami Announces Support for Sun Life Stadium Modernization

The University of Miami today announced their support for the efforts to modernize Sun Life Stadium with private funds, adding to the growing support for this proposal. Blake James, the University of Miami Athletic Director, said: “The Miami Hurricanes are proud to call Sun Life Stadium our home and we are excited about the prospect of playing in a state-of-the art facility.  We look forward to working with the Dolphins on this privately-funded project, which will enhance the fan experience during UM football games and provide our football student-athletes with an amazing home-field advantage.”
