MIAMI GARDENS, FL – As a result of the overwhelmingly successful hurricane donation drive during the Miami Dolphins-New York Jets game, Dolphin Stadium together with the City of Miami, Miami Gardens, Miami-Dade County and Congressman Kendrick Meek’s office are extending the hurricane collection drive at the stadium and allowing more fans to help by joining forces with the Florida Marlins and the University of Miami.
During the Florida Marlins final homestand of 2008, Marlins’ fans can bring their non-perishable canned food and clothing donations to the games and deposit them in the marked bins by the stadium entry gates. Collection will begin at 5 p.m. for the weekday games and 11 a.m. for the Sunday games.
Hurricane fans attending the University of Miami football games on September 27 against North Carolina and October 4 against Florida State University will also have the opportunity to drop-off their donated items at the stadium, as well as Dolphins’ fans during the Dolphins-Chargers game on October 5th.
Donations will also be accepted on non-gamedays at the stadium, 2269 Dan Marino Blvd., from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Monetary donations will not be accepted at the stadium but can be made through World Vision by visiting www.WorldVision.org.
Several Caribbean nations have been affected by Hurricane Ike, as well as Hurricane Gustav and Tropical Storm Hanna, leaving many residents in dire need of food, clothing and emergency assistance. All items collected at the stadium will be distributed to Haiti and the other affected countries in the Caribbean through the City of Miami and Carma Foundation led by Milky Jean, sister of award-winning recording artist Wyclef Jean and World Vision. Other participating organizations assisting are Red Cross and Catholic Charities.
