Miami Dolphins and Sun Life Financial Unite to Raise Money for Relief Efforts in Haiti
Miami Gardens, FL (January 20, 2010) – Moments after the announcement that Sun Life Stadium would be the new home of the Miami Dolphins, the team and Sun Life Financial joined forces to create the Sun Life Stadium/Miami Dolphins Haiti Relief Fund. The two organizations pledged to match every dollar donated to the fund with a two dollar matching contribution, with a maximum overall contribution of $300,000. Supporters can log on to www.SunLifeStadium.com or www.MiamiDolphins.com to donate money to this important cause.
“The Dolphins organization and Sun Life recognize the immediate need to help our neighbors in Haiti,” said Mike Dee, Dolphins CEO. “Furthermore, we know that our local community is also deeply impacted, including a number of our Sun Life Stadium staff members, and we hope the creation of this fund can help to provide much needed relief in Haiti and here at home in Florida.”
Monies raised by the Miami Dolphins/Sun Life Stadium Haiti Relief Fund will benefit the Red Cross and other organizations that are assisting with relief efforts.
“We have a pledge to leverage our new partnership to benefit the community. This matching program will provide critical support to the people of Haiti who are dealing with this horrific tragedy,” said Priscilla Brown, Senior Vice President and Head of U.S. Marketing for Sun Life. “We ask everyone that is able, to log onto www.SunLifeStadium.com and give their assistance.”
The Dolphins also announced that they are partnering with Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, Triton Container and the American Red Cross South Florida Region for additional relief efforts at an event at Sun Life Stadium on Saturday, January 23, 2010. Between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., current Miami Dolphins players, along with alumni, cheerleaders and TD will be on hand to assist with collecting non-perishable food, water and medical supplies as well as financial contributions. Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines will ship these items and Triton Container will provide containers for relief efforts at no cost. The American Red Cross South Florida Region will be on hand collecting financial donations. The event will take place at Sun Life Stadium Gate 15, located on 199th Street South East of the Stadium.
