ICC-11351-Team-Infographics-InterWe are now less than two weeks away from the championship rounds of the inaugural Guinness International Champions Cup tournament at Sun Life Stadium.

On August 6th and 7th, all eight of the prestigious clubs from across Europe and the United States will call South Florida home as they compete for the International Champions Cup Trophy.

We continue our preview of the International Champions Cup participants this week by taking a look at FC Internazionale, commonly known by their supporters as Inter.

Inter is one of the most famous and popular teams in the world, having played all of their games in Serie A, the top tier of Italian soccer.  Over the course of their 105-year history, Inter has seen great success, having won 18 Serie A titles, three European Cups, two Intercontinental Cups, three UEFA Cups, three UEFA Champions League titles, seven Coppa Italia tittles, five Italian Super Cups, and one FIFA Club World Cup.

Inter most recently found success during the 2010-11 season, when they won the Coppa Italia, Italian Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup.

The team is led by captain Javier Xanetti, who has been with Inter since 1995.  The defensive midfielder has won 16 titles with Inter during his 18 year career, and was also named to the FIFA 100 in 2004.  The FIFA 100 is a list of the “greatest living footballers” compiled by Pele in honor of the 100th Anniversary of FIFA.  Xanneti also played for the Argentinian National team from 1994-2011, with whom he competed in the 1998 and 2002 World Cups, and won the silver medal at the 1996 Olympic Games.

Midfielder Esteban Cambiasso is another standout Argentinian who plays for Inter.  Having been with the squad since 2004, he has helped lead Inter to 15 titles.  Prior to coming to Inter, Cambaisso won multiple titles with Real Madrid, who he may possibly face in an International Champions Cup game held at Sun Life Stadium.

Walter Mazzarri was named the new manager of Inter in May of this year, coming over from Napoli whom he led to a second place finish is Serie A during the 2012-2013 season.

Inter will begin International Champions Cup play against Chelsea on August 1st in Indianapolis.  Chelsea is managed by José Mourinho, who had managed Inter from 2008-2010. During that time he led Inter to 5 titles, and was named the 2010 FIFA World Coach of the Year.

Following their game in Indianapolis, Inter will travel to New York’s MetLife Stadium to face either Milan or Valencia.  Inter and Milan are bitter rivals who share the same stadium, San Siro, in the city of Milan.
