On Saturday evening, the inaugural soccer games were played in historic Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles as a part of the second round of the International Champions Cup.
Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring early for Real Madrid, netting the first goal during the 17th minute. Mesut Ozil continued the scoring when he added another goal at the 31st minute mark, giving Real Madrid a 2-0 lead.
Nikica Jelavic scored the only goal of the evening for Everton during the 61st minute.
Real Madrid will now play in the International Champions Cup championship game at Sun Life Stadium on August 7th against either AC Milan or Chelsea. Everton will play in the fifth place game on August 6th against either the loser of the AC Milan – Chelsea match or the winner between Inter and Valencia.
Landon Donovan and Omar Gonzalez led the charge for the LA Galaxy, both of whom were absent from the first round game of the International Champions Cup due to their participation in the MLS All-Star Game.
Gonzalez opened the scoring for the LA Galaxy with a goal during the 39th minute, while Donovan added the eventual game winner during the 60th minute. Robbie Keane added an insurance goal during the 89th minute to give the LA Galaxy the 3-1 victory.
The Galaxy will now play in the third place game on August 7th and face either the loser between AC Milan and Chelsea or the winner between Inter Milan and Valencia. Juventus will play in the seventh place game on August 6th, facing the loser between Inter and Valencia.
All eight of the teams will be at Sun Life Stadium on August 6th and 7th for the final games of the International Champions Cup. The final matchups will be known following this evening’s games.
