English Premier League Archrivals Manchester United and Liverpool to play for title in Miami
Finals take place on Monday, August 4th at Sun Life-Stadium in Miami with more than 50,000 fans expected
NEW YORK, NY (August 2, 2014) – Manchester United and manager Louis van Gaal are heading to Miami to face rival Liverpool in the Guinness International Champions Cup final. In front of more than 109,000 fans at the “Big House” in Ann Arbor – breaking an attendance record for a professional soccer match in the United States – Manchester United topped reigning UEFA Champion Real Madrid 3-1 to win Group A and earn their trip to Miami. Liverpool, who is in action against A.C. Milan at Bank of America Field in Charlotte, won Group B with eight points. The finals will take place on Monday, August 4th at 8 p.m. local time at Sun Life Stadium in Miami.
Manchester United and Liverpool are two of the most storied franchises in all of soccer, with 38 League Titles between the two. Liverpool finished second in the Premier League last year, and boasts a star-studded roster that includes a dozen players who competed in this years FIFA World Cup, including England’s Daniel Sturridge and Steven Gerrard.
The finals in Miami on August 4th will celebrate the sport of soccer after more than 700,000 fans witnessed the Guinness International Champions Cup. The Guinness International Champions Cup Finals will feature DJ Martin Garrix as the halftime entertainment hosted by Life in Color and presented by Cricket Wireless. Garrix’s song “Animals” has been a mainstay on 2014 charts as one of the biggest EDM tracks. The halftime entertainment also will feature a laser light show, fireworks and spectacular LED video mapping. In addition, the Guinness International Champions Cup Finals will boast a pregame fan fest, complete with a player walk, Guinness Beer Garden, free face painting, a live band and DJ, interactive soccer activities, food trucks and giveaways for all ages. Manchester United’s manager, Louis van Gaal, has yet to lose guiding the Red Devils and is looking for his first title as the team’s manager. Manchester United is led by star strikers Wayne Rooney and Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez, who both competed for England and Mexico respectively at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
