It was announced last night that the 7th ranked Ohio State Buckeyes and the 12th ranked Clemson Tigers have been selected to meet in the 2014 Discover Orange Bowl. The game is scheduled for Friday, January 3rd at 8:00 pm.
This is only the second meeting between the two schools as Clemson and Ohio State last played each other in the 1978 Gator Bowl, a game in which Tigers won by a score of 17-15.
The January 3rd game will be Clemson’s fifth appearance in the Orange Bowl game, having last played in the 2012 edition against West Virginia. This is only the second appearance for Ohio State in the Orange Bowl, having last played in the game in 1977, a 27-10 victory over Colorado.
Clemson finished in second place in the Atlantic Coast Conference with a regular season record of 10-2. The Tigers suffered losses to Florida State and in state rival South Carolina over the course of the season.
Ohio State comes into the matchup with a record of 12-1 after falling to Michigan State in the Big 10 Championship game on Saturday evening. Prior to the game, the Buckeyes had been on a 24 game winning streak.
