On January 7, 2013 before a crowd of 80,120, the second ranked Alabama Crimson Tide dismantled the top ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish by a score of 42-14 to secure their second straight national title and their third in four years. The game earned the No. 2 spot on the Top 10 Moments at Sun Life Stadium in 2013.
In the highly anticipated matchup, the Crimson Tide bolted out to 28-0 first half lead and never looked back.
Alabama’s outstanding performance was led by running back Eddie Lacy and quarterback AJ McCarron. Lacy, who earned the game’s Offensive Most Outstanding Player honors, finished the game with 140 yards rushing on 20 carries and two touchdowns. McCarron threw for four touchdown and completed 20-of-28 passes.
The 80, 120 in attendance marked a new record for Sun Life Stadium as additional seating was added along the sideline for the crowd.
