The Thursday night game started by turning the lights off at Sun Life Stadium, with an electric player introduction through smoke and fireworks, accompanied by a special cheerleader Halloween performance.
The excitement extended on to the field of play as the Bengals and Dolphins battled to a 20-20 tie to end regulation. The night was filled with thrilling plays; including Brent Grimes 94-yard interception return for a touchdown that gave the Dolphins a 17-3 lead in third quarter, his first touchdown of his career.
But no one was prepared for what was about to come in overtime.
With 6:38 remaining in overtime, Cameron Wake sacked Bengals’ quarterback Andy Dalton in the west endzone of Sun Life Stadium, resulting in a safety and giving the Dolphins a 22-20 victory. It was Wake’s third sack of the evening.
Cameron Wake’s “walk-off” sack marked only the third time in NFL history that a game had ended with a safety in overtime.
The electric atmosphere and historical ending is well deserving of the No 3. Spot on the Top 10 Moments at Sun Life Stadium in 2013.
